Peppervine

$5.38

Scientific names: Nekemias arborea, Ampelopsis arborea

I propagated these because I think this plant has undervalued ornamental potential. It’s a stiff, almost woody vine with leaves that sometimes have a warm/reddish tone. Give it full to partial shade and soil that is usually moist (with occasional water inundation) to soil that neither wet nor extremely dry.

This plant is native throughout Florida excluding the Keys.

Fruits are food for birds and small mammals. It is a larval host for the grapeleaf skeletonizer (more bird food).

It’s in the grape family, and fruits are technically edible to a degree (I’m not including this in the edible plants tab as a cya). Eating a few is fine, but more than that will cause mild irritation (maybe where the name “pepper” comes from). There are processes to leach out the irritants for juice.

Size: assorted small pots
