Adam’s needle a.k.a. beargrass is a perennial native throughout most of Florida excluding some of the southernmost counties. It likes full to partial sun and sandy soil that is somewhat moist to sandy soil that experiences very long very dry periods. It is a larval host plant for the cofaqui giant skipper and yucca giant skipper butterflies. The flowers are white. The leaves are pointy.

The petals can be eaten raw or fried or made into candy. The fruit can be eaten after it’s cooked and the seeds are removed.
