Ebony spleenwort is found throughout much of North and Central Florida, including Alachua County. It can do well growing on or near limestone or logs. It likes shade and areas that are usually moist to areas that are neither wet nor very dry. The sunnier the site is, the more moisture it will need.
The stalk becomes black with age, hence the name “ebony.”
