Eastern redbud is a deciduous tree with showy pink flowers. Its native range includes the Panhandle and much of North and Central Florida (excluding the East Coast). It likes full to partial sun and soil that is usually moist (with occasional flooding) to soil that experiences short very dry periods.
This is a larval host for Henry’s/woodland elfin butterflies and io moths.
The flowers can be eaten raw or boiled. The seeds can be roasted. The young pods are also edible.
