Creeping cucumber is a Florida native found throughout most of the state, including Alachua County. It can form a mat across the ground or it can be trellised. It likes full to partial sun (or constant bright/light shade) and moist, sandy soil. Although weedy to some, I think it’s just darling.
Fruits are teeny and are edible when they are light/bright green (like a normal cucumber), but if you eat them once they are a dark green or black, they can cause diarrhea. It’s easy to tell the difference, but be careful!
