Coral bean (a.k.a. Cherokee bean) is a deciduous perennial native throughout Florida. This thorny bush likes shade or sun and soil that is usually moist that experiences occasional water inundation to soil that experiences very long very dry periods. (It can tolerate a wide variety of conditions.) It forms coral/red-colored tubular flowers that are a nectar source for hummingbirds. While beautiful, the seeds are poisonous, so don’t eat them!
